Mercenaries/Najemnicy

I managed to buy these two old metal minis a while ago and painted them up quickly. They were fun to work with as I finally had a chance to paint something from the world of Malifaux that looks like it could actually exist in real life. These two are some of the few that actually look better than their plastic versions. The new ones are much smaller and have fewer details.
The Trapper is an excellent sniper who can deploy From the Shadows and can shoot pretty much across the whole board (with a built in +). I'll probably try him with my Neveborn at some point.
I painted the Specialist thinking about using him with Sonnia. He can hand out burning with his Flammenwerfer and hit with blasts on moderate and severe. He can also remove markers, which may come in handy.

Specjalistę malowałem z myślą o użyciu go z Sonnią.

I've also recently played a game against Hired Guns crew. The highlights included Coppelius and Doppelganger running schemes and doing some fantastic flips (they both had two eye in turn ). I also managed to hug Von Schill to death with my Teddy (with some help of hazardous terrain) only to have him killed a moment later by Stongarm Suit flipping Red Joker on damage. It was a friendly game as I was introducing a buddy into Malifaux so we didn't even finish it.

Tuco #3

Here's another post about the third approach to a Wyrd model, this time it's Tuco. I've painted him twice before. At first it seemed to me that his legs are too long and too thin, but after painting I realized that the model has a lithe look to it and the dynamic pose goes well with that.
I've used him a few times in my games, without much success so far but I've yet to try him with Chompy Dreamer, when his abilities relying on Wp duels can be more effective,

The Hype Train is here

Mysterious Effigy

I really enjoyed painting a metal version of this model a while ago. I was one of the most complex models cats in metal for Malifaux and the amount of details was amazing. The new plastic version is completely different. It looks more like a mini version of Widow Weaver.

Lilitu #3

That's the fourth model of Lilitu I've painted , the previous two were old edition pewter ones, and there was a proxy I made using TTB bits. The plastic version is very similar but it's thinner and has better proportions.
I've tried the Twins in game a few times with Dreamer and never managed to get them to do achieve significant. I may be doing it wrong as they have potential to make impact, I probably just need more practice.
I've written about this model before so instead of elaborating I'll just leave you with pics of both Neverborn Twins.

One more Teddy... and a Widow

I painted these two as part of Painter's Challenge on Wyrd forums. Both Widow and Teddy have become staples in my crew whenever I choose a shooty version of Dreamer. I have three more Teddies (one day I have to try a crew with 4 of these!) but I've always wanted to try a panda-paint scheme. I really enjoyed painting him. The main challenge was to use different shades of white for elements such as teeth, nails, and stitches.
Widow Weaver works very well with Dreamer as her web markers can really help with lowering enemy's Wp and making the whole crew more effective. She also makes constructs faster. Add an upgrade that gives Teddy Flight and all of a sudden his base Wk value becomes an impressive 7.
The miniature is fantastic as at first glance she looks like an elegant lady. When she turns around, that's a different story...

Malifaux 50ss Single Master tournament

I played in my third Malifaux tournament last Saturday. It was a single master 50ss event so I had no problem with choosing Dreamer. He is a versatile one and I can quickly adapt to many situations. Only strategies were known and schemes were flipped by TO before each round. A total of 12 people showed up and all factions were represented (those pesky green ones aren't one, are they?).
In this post I will briefly summarize my three games, without going into much detail, I will just focus on highlights from each battle.
I used the summoning version of Dreamer for all of my games. In each one there were no schemes that would reward killing minions or peons so I felt I could try starting with a solid crew of expensive models and summon in whatever was needed. In each game I had the following upgrades: Dreams of Pain, On Wings of Darkness, Otherworldly. I also Took flying Teddy (or Teddy with Retribution's eye) and 3 Daydreams in each game. Other than that, I chose different models depending on opposing faction, strats/schemes, and the layout of the table.

W turnieju wzięło udział 12 osób i wszystkie frakcje były godnie reprezentowane (w końcu nie zaliczamy do nich tych małych upierdliwych zielonych ludków, nieprawdaż?).
W każdej z gier miałem następujące upgrady: Dreams of Pain, On Wings of Darkness, Otherworldly. Zawsze brałem tez Miśka w wersji latającej lub z Retribution's Eye i trzy Daydreamy. Poza tym, dobierałem resztę ekipy na podstawie frakcji przeciwnika, strategii/schemów, i układu stołu.

Yes, that whole puddle was hazardous terrain...

Round One
Strategy: Extraction
Deployment: Standard
Schemes: Convict Labor, Neutralize the Leader, Take Prisoner, Exhaust their Forces, Mark for Death
My opponent took: Zoraida, Juju, 3x Waldgeist, 2x Silurid, and Iggy.

This game was hilarious mainly due to terrain that the TO prepared. This entire pach of murky water you can see in the picture was... hazardous terrain. My opponent won the first flip and (wisely) chose to deploy first on the half which had more land than water. I was quite concerned about the effects of hazardous terrain as it meant I needed to get Dreamer over it before I could start any serious summoning.
I deployed Tuco so that he was able to start by taking a shot at a group of Waldgeist, Iggy, and Zoraida in turn one. He hit both and I even Red Joker'ed the second flip to make sure I get some blast damage around. Unfortunately, Tuco died at the end of turn one from burning that he shared with Doll.
My opponent quickly got to the middle of the board and I realized that I'd have to look for points somewhere else. I pushed Teddy forward with my Daydreams, and gave it Fast. In first two turns he killed a Silurid and two Waldgeists (pushing one into hazardous terrain) before dying. He died in turn 3 but he did his job though as he kept the main force of my opponent tied and I was able to drop markers for Convict Labor (the only thing my Doppelganger did was to drop one Scheme Marker, but it gave me important points)..
The final turn was really crazy. At first a Waldgeist walked up to Dreamer to tie him in Ml. Right after that my opponent killed a nearby Alp to ensure there weren't any friendly models within 3'. Right after that I summoned Chompy, who... was killed a moment later. Now I had Dreamer out and only a Stitched Together next to him and Zoraida. Dreamer still had 5 Wds and I had only one weak card in hand. I attacked  my master with a Stitched once, cheated down Dreamer's result and hit with a Ca action for 4, following that with another attack. I had to rely on flips from the deck but fate was on my side at that moment and I was able to kill my own master. As a result, I prevented my opponent from scoring for Take Prisoner, and ended up winning the game 5:3

Should I stay or should I go?

Dramatic final moments of the game

Przepchnąłem Daydreamami Miśka do przodu i dałem mu Fasta. W pierwszych dwóch turach zabił Siluridai  dwa Waldgeisty (wpychając jednego do wody).
Na początku Waldgeist podszedł do Dreamera, żeby związać go w walce wręcz.

Round Two
Strategy: Headhunter
Deployment: Corner
Schemes: Convict Labor, Frame for Murder, Covert Breakthrough, Show of Force, Leave your Mark
I faced Jacky Daw with The Hanged, Nurse, Bishop, Johan, Trapper, Lady Ligea, and a Guilty.

Board setup for game 2

In this game I added two Silurids and Mr Tannen to the core of my crew. I've never used this enforcer before so I though I'd finally give him a go.
This was a very challenging game. We managed to play 5 full turns (which is not always the case in tournaments) and almost each one ended in a draw as we both kept scoring.
I haven't seen Bishop and Johan in action before, but I quickly realized they'd both need to go ASAP. Turn 2 came and three attacks from Teddy (after a successful Gobble you up) were enough to remove the biggest Ml threat (Bishop), which gave my opponent 2 VP for Frame for Murder. Next turn started with Johan activating first and easily getting rid of Teddy (those + on Relic Hammer do wonders against Constructs). I was really impressed with how much this one is capable of, especially taking into account his relatively low soulstone cost. And since Teddy was my "sucker", I also got 2 VP and we tied again.
It was a very close game but there were some particularly dramatic moments. One happened when I was finally able to summon in a Teddy. I had a Red Joker in my hand. I flipped and got... a 13 of Masks! I thought about summoning another Teddy but I also noticed that my opponent had no soulstones and only one card left, so I kept all my high cards, brought out Chompy, pushed him with a Daydream to be able to attack Jack Daw and then burned a soulstone for a + to attack, and hit Jacky with Disembowel after I cheated in a 10 of Crows.
After that we both struggled to squeeze in as many VP as we could. Chompy moved on and killed a Trapper who had been making life of my crew hard from the beginning of the game.
Turn 5 came and I was losing 6 to 7. Mr Tannen moved towards a Guilty who dropped a marker for Breakthrough in previous turn, used "Chatty", and positioned himself close to the Guilty to prevent him from interacting and dropping another Marker. A nurse managed to walk up and drop the second marker for Breakthrough. On the opposite side of the board I did the same with Coppelius who I summoned in earlier.  I activated Chompy, tried to kill the Hanged, and failing that brought out Dreamer who dropped a third scheme for Covert Breakthrough, walked and picked up a Head Marker, netting me the much needed 2VP in the last activation in the game, which ended in my 9:8 victory. That was a really close one and my opponent made me work really hard for every single VP I scored. Good game!

Jack's deployment
My deployment (one Silurid was a bit further to the right)

W tej grze uzupełniłem ekipę o dwa Siluridy i Tannena. Nigdy wcześniej go nie używałem, i doszedłem do wniosku, że w końcu mogę go wypróbować.
W 2 turze trzy skuteczne ataki Miśka (po użyciu "Gobble you up") pozwoliły mi usunąć z gry największe zagrożenie w walce wręcz (Bishop), co równocześnie dało mojemu przeciwnikowi 2VP za Frame for Murder.
Mr Tannen podszedł w kierunku modelu the Guilty i odpalił "Chatty", blokując mu możliwość interakcji i zrzucania kolejnego markera za Breakthrough. Good game!

What'cha gonna do when Chompy comes for you?

Round Three
Strategy: Interference
Deployment: Flank
Schemes: Convict Labor, Frame for Murder, Undercover Entourage, Exhaust their Forces, Show of Force

My opponent had Colette, Cassandra, 2 Performers, 2 Coryphee who quickly turned into a duet, 2 Doves, and Hans.

At this point my brain was fried and I found it really hard to concentrate. I knew that after two victories I'd be paired with one of the top players and wasn't too happy to learn I'd be facing Colette and her showgirls as I'd never played against that crew before. I chose Undercover Entourage as I knew that regardless of his position on board, Dreamer (with an upgrade giving him Flight) is capable of doing it. I realized I'd probably be unable to outplay Colette with schemes relying on dropping markers so I  also took Frame for Murder, and... made my biggest mistake. I chose Tuco as the sucker. I gave him Retribution's Eye as I expected some armored minions to hit the table and thought he'd be a big threat and a priority target. I should have chosen Teddy instead...
Turn one saw Hans shooting Tuco and wounding him for 3. I had two Waldgeists as I thought they'd be able to move forward and keep at least one quarter of a table for me with their natural toughness and high Ml range of 4'. One got killed by the Coryphee Duet early in the first turn and the other didn't really do much for me. I probably would have been better off with a Hooded Rider.
I summoned in the Twins and Coppelius in turn 1 but wasn't able to do much with them. My opponent kept his crew at a distance and I had no chance to catch up with them. I managed to push Teddy forward and positioned him close to Hans. After winning initiative in turn 2 I was able to fly him up, attack Hans and push him off the roof to his death. Shortly after that Teddy got killed and I wished I had chosen  Frame for Murder on him as it would get me 2 VPs.
I tried to put Tuco ahead and make him a bigger threat but he failed a key shot against Dove that would have forced a Wk-preventing duel on nearby models, potentially crippling half of the crew for the remainder of that turn.
Once again, my last activation of the game was Dreamer and he flew across the board to earn me 3 much needed VPs. I also scored one for the strategy and the game ended 4:4.
I was a bit disappointed with Tuco as he did nothing for me in that game, failing to hit a single shot and then failing to... die when I wanted him dead ;) I think I could have also deployed him better instead of putting him on the first floor of a large building.

Udało mi się wypchnąć Miśka do przodu i ustawić go niedaleko Hansa. Po wygraniu inicjatywy w 2 turze podleciałem do niego, zadałem obrażenia i wykończyłem go zepchnięciem z dachu.

At the end of the tournament there were 4 people who had two victories and one draw. I finished 4th. I't my best tournament result so far and while I feel it could have been better (I'd probably have been 1st if I'd won my last game), I also realize that my first two games were very close and could have ended differently. Anyway, the most important thing is that I had fun and enjoyed all my three games.
The atmosphere was very good and each of my opponents was great to play against. There were no conflicts and each time someone had a rules question, the TO was quick to help.
I played all my games using the summoner Dreamer and I think I should have fielded the Chompy version at least once (especially in the last game) as he has more mobility and better synergy with his crew then. The summoner version can be very effective (especially if you get a Teddy late in the game), but it comes with a compromise. A summoner stays back longer and bringing out Chompy happens later (not to mention the lack of Ml expert).
I was also disappointed with Lelu and Lilitu. I was able to summon them and hel them up in my last game, but failed to use them effectively (my opponent played very well too, keeping his models at a distance). The potential is there as they share conditions like Fast or the one that gives + to all duels. However, they need to get close to the opponent to be really effective.

Rozczarowali mnie Lelu i Lilitu.

And last but not least, some pictures showing the place.
I na sam koniec, parę fotek pokazujących miejscówkę.
